Medicare Bulk Billing/Rebates are available for psychological treatment by registered psychologists under the Australian Government’s Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative. This scheme provides considerable assistance to people living with mental health problems, allowing them greater access to psychologists and providing more affordable mental health care. For more information please visit www.psychology.org.au/medicare/fact_sheet/ or download the fact sheet using this link:
Your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician will need to prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan for you to access the Medicare Rebate. This will need to be faxed or emailed to our practice ahead of your appointment for processing. If we have not received your referral or your referrer has not registered it with Medicare by your appointment time you will be charged the full fee.
Claiming Your Rebate
Our practice uses Online Claiming Technology so your rebate will be paid directly to your nominated bank account with Medicare saving you a trip to a Medicare Service Centre and the hassle of filling in forms for each time you wish to claim a rebate.
Medicare bank account details collection form (1579A)
Use this form to register and store your bank account details with Medicare. Medicare will use these details for all Medicare payments where you are the claimant (the person who paid for the service). Other people listed on your Medicare card (aged 14 years and over) can use this form when consenting to use your bank account for their Medicare payments, where they are the claimant.
You can also register your bank account details with Medicare using Medicare Online Services. To register for your Medicare online account, you need to create a myGov account and link to Medicare. If you require help using your Medicare online account contact the myGov help desk operations from 7 am – 7 pm, Monday to Friday by phoning 132 307 and select Option 1.
For your convenience we also have Medicare brochures and forms available in our practice reception and waiting areas for registering/updating your bank details for rebate payments.
