GENDER  Confusion – How to be POLITICALLY CORRECT  - Gold Coast

ADDRESSING individuals today!!!

As of my last update in January 2022, the concept of being politically correct regarding gender has evolved significantly over time and continues to evolve. Now in  2024, it’s likely that the emphasis on using inclusive language and respecting individuals’ gender identities remains prevalent in many societies. Here are some general guidelines that may be considered politically correct regarding gender in 2024:

1. Respect individuals’ chosen pronouns: Use the pronouns that individuals prefer to use for themselves. This might include traditional pronouns (he/him, she/her) as well as gender-neutral pronouns (they/them, ze/zir, etc.).

2. Avoid assumptions: Don’t make assumptions about someone’s gender identity based on their appearance or other factors. Instead, allow individuals to self-identify and respect their chosen identity.

3. Use inclusive language: Instead of defaulting to gendered language (e.g., “guys” to refer to a mixed-gender group), use inclusive terms (e.g., “everyone,” “folks,” “people”) to address groups of people.

4. Be mindful of terminology: Stay informed about terminology related to gender identity and expression. Language evolves, and what may have been considered appropriate in the past might not be considered so in the present.

5. Respect privacy: Avoid prying into someone’s gender identity or asking invasive questions about their body or personal experiences. Respect people’s privacy and boundaries.

6. Educate yourself: Take the initiative to educate yourself about gender diversity, including different identities and experiences. This can help you understand and respect the diverse range of identities that exist.

7. Listen and learn: If you make a mistake or use language that is hurtful or offensive to someone’s gender identity, apologize and learn from the experience. Be open to feedback and strive to do better in the future.

8. Support inclusivity: Advocate for policies and practices that promote inclusivity and respect for all gender identities, both in your personal life and in broader society.

These guidelines reflect a general approach to being politically correct regarding gender in 2024, but it’s important to recognize that attitudes and norms can vary across different communities and cultures. Being respectful and considerate of individuals’ gender identities is an ongoing process that requires continual learning and reflection.
